Affordable homes secured after council purchase
Dozens of affordable homes are being bought by a council after it revealed there was a risk they would not be built on a new development.
West Northamptonshire Council said it had secured 87 properties from Tila Homes, in the Landimore Road development in Hardingstone, Northampton, as "there was a risk the affordable housing provision would not be delivered as intended".
It said 61 homes would be available for social rent and 26 for shared ownership.
Tila, on its website, said that 750 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes were being built with prices starting from £344,995. It has been approached for comment.
The homes were designated as affordable housing through a Section 106 planning agreement, the authority added.
The first ones were due to be completed from winter 2027 with the rest being built in phases until 2031.
The Reform UK-led council said the purchase would help "more people access affordable housing in an area where demand continues to grow".
Councillor Charlie Hastie, deputy leader and cabinet member for housing and communities, said: "By acting now, we are protecting these homes for future residents and delivering on our commitment to increasing the supply of high-quality, affordable housing across the local area."
